In order to know what criteria comes under each age categorisation I used researched on the Internet and ended up using the sight bbfc.co.uk (which was very useful), I also did my own research and looked at pre-existing profession films that come under the same genre and specification as my film in order to look at what age rating they are classified under. I looked at other films inspired by psychological issues such as "A beautiful mind" which was rated as a 12 and "A dangerous method" which was rated as a 15. I found my film hard to rate, not because of the content but of the theme is complex and may confuse younger viewers. However when looking at these two exemplar films I think my film would be rated more along the same categorisation as "A beautiful mind" so would receive a rating of a 12
There is a set criteria that the BBFC website states my film should comply to in order to be rated a 12:
+ Horror - "moderate physical and psychological treat may be permitted, provided disturbing sequences are not frequent"
+ Language - "moderate language is allowed"
+ Themes - "mature themes are acceptable but their treatment must be suitable for young teenagers"
+ Violence - "moderate violence is allowed but should not dwell on detail"
+ Drugs - "any missus of drugs must be infrequent and should not be glamorised"
+ Sex - "sex references should not go beyond what is suitable for young viewers"
