The Prelaminary Task...

The task = we were given a preliminary task, of completing a short film clip in a group of three (so me, Georgie and Caitlin went together as we know we work well together). We had to show a character walking through the door, exchanging dialogue between them and another character and then walking away from the scene, keeping the camera at the same eye level for each character.

The plot = We decided to add a bit of a comedy spin to our piece (or at least try to), so instead of just a basic dialogue we also added a thumb war (it felt like childhood long car journeys again!)

The location = our media studies class room, we chose this location as firstly we only had one hour to produce the film so therefore it had to be on school premises, we also did not want to waste lots of time trying to look for a location, as we wanting to get it done and allow for the repeat of a few shots (we were quicker than we though so we also got to import our shots that lesson which allowed us to start editing straight away the next lesson), also it was a rather chilly day so the warm classroom was a nice offer!

The script =
(Character A walks though a door into a room where character B is sitting behind a table)
Character A : I'm Alice (shakes hand)
Character B : Nice to meet you Alice, are you ready to begin?
(Both characters roll up sleeves in sink)
Character A and B : One,  two, three, four, I declare a thumb war. One, two, three, go
(Thumb war is acted out, and character A is defeated)
Character B : One, two, three, four. I won a thumb war
(Character A slams hands on desk and stands up)
Character A : Next time
(Character A walks away)
Character B : Defeated
I played character A (typical me who gets to lose the thumb war really was like childhood!) and Caitlin played character B, Georgie used the camera and filmed. This worked really well as we all had equal parts, and when it came to editing we all chipped in. If the group had been any bigger than we would not of all of got an equal part, and any smaller we would of had to look outside of the group for characters which would of used up time when we would of been filming.

The shots =
We used a full shot of the character A walking up to the door and opening it (until 0.02 seconds)
We had a medium shot of the character A actually waling through the door, and over to character B and greeting them (0.02 seconds until 0.07 seconds)
We had a medium close up shot of character A and B doing the introduction to the thumb war (0.07 seconds until 0.14 seconds)
We used a cut in shot of the actual thumb war of the characters focusing on the their hands (0.14 seconds until 0.16 seconds)
We then went back to the medium close up shot, when showing character A losing the thumb war (0.16 seconds until 0.20 seconds)
We then used the medium shot to show character A walking away from the table (0.20 seconds until 0.23 seconds)
Our final shot was a medium close up shot of character B stating that they had won (0.23 seconds until 0.26 seconds)

The editing = We did a quick edit, by cutting a few clips, but we kept the clip pretty simple, to go along with our simple storyline. We contemplated added music in the background whilst the thumb war was happening, but we didn't have the song which we wanted to use with us, but that was another element which we would add if doing it again.
